Author Guidelines

Manuscripts are submitted to the editorial office via the electronic publishing system (https://iimmun.ru/) in accordance with the requirements of the journal "Russian journal of Infection and Immunity" and the "Instructions for Article Preparation and Submission" available on the website. The journal accept manuscripts written in English or Russian.

The journal accepts the following types of publications:

Original Article

An article must describe the results of a completed study. The maximum length of an article is 40,000 characters (including spaces, abstract, keywords, and bibliography). The article must contain: 1) Introduction; 2) Materials and Methods; 3) Results; 4) Discussion; 5) Conclusion; 6) Acknowledgements.

• The "Introduction" provides the rationale for the aim and objectives of the study.
• "Materials and Methods" can be presented in separate sections with short subheadings. All non-standard modifications of methods must be described in sufficient detail. For all reagents, animals, cell cultures, etc., used in the work, it is necessary to accurately specify the manufacturers and/or sources of procurement (including the name of the country, company, or institute).
• "Results" are described in a logical sequence as separate sections divided by subheadings, without elements of discussion, without repeating methodological details, and without duplicating numerical data presented in tables and figures.
• The "Discussion" provides a detailed analysis of the obtained data in comparison with data from the literature, which serves as the basis for the authors' findings and conclusions.
• In the "Conclusion", the authors summarize the main findings derived from the conducted work.
• The "Acknowledgements" section is not mandatory but is highly recommended. In this section, authors may express their gratitude to the organization that funded the research, to colleagues who consulted on the work during its execution and/or writing, and to technical staff for assistance in performing the research. Acknowledgements for the provision of specific reagents or equipment are usually placed in the "Materials and Methods" section. “Funding” section can be added.

Short Communications

The journal publishes concise articles that possess unquestionable novelty and significance. The total length of a short communication is limited to 8 typewritten pages (15,000 printed characters including spaces), the number of figures and/or tables may not exceed 3, and the list of references should not exceed 15 sources. The sections of a short communication are similar to those of an original article described above, but the results may be presented together with the discussion.

Review Articles

Review articles provide a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature in a given research area, identifying current gaps and problems. They should be constructive and contain recommendations for future research. The authors should have expertise and experience in relevant for the Review article fields. Review articles may not present new, unpublished data. Review articles can be submitted as:

• Narrative review (the author's expert opinion, analysis of literature without a strict search methodology, aimed at introducing the problem, showing the history of the issue, and outlining prospects);
• Systematic review (standardized selection and analysis of literature sources with a description of the search methodology);
• Meta-analysis (collection and synthesis of data from multiple systematic reviews).

When preparing systematic reviews and meta-analyses, authors are strongly encouraged to follow the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, available at https://www.prisma-statement.org/

The maximum length of a review article is 56,000 characters including spaces.

The structure of a review may include: abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods (for systematic reviews and meta-analyses, specifying the databases and libraries used), relevant sections according to the article's content, and a conclusion. The length of review articles and the number of references are not limited; however, at least 80% of the cited sources must have been published within the last 10 years.

Bibliographic Standards for Referencing Cited Publications

References to literary sources in the text of the article, as well as in figures and tables, are denoted by Arabic numerals in square brackets [1, 2, 3, ...]. References to dissertations, dissertation abstracts, publications in conference proceedings, and local methodological documents are not allowed. The number of sources is unlimited. All authors of a work must be listed in each reference. The sources in the reference list should be arranged in alphabetical order.

At the discretion of the Editorial Board and in agreement with the authors, articles accepted for publication may be re-assigned to one of the following sections: Obituary, Chornicles, Anniversaries, Science history, Book Reviews.

Symbols, Abbreviations, and Units of Measurement

For complex terms or names most frequently used in the text of the article, abbreviations may be introduced in parentheses after the first mention of the full term. Latin script is used for international transcriptions (e.g., IL-6, TNFα, CD). Names of microorganisms are given in their original transcription using italics (E. coli, Streptococcus pyogenes). Units of measurement are presented without a period after their abbreviated designation (s, min, h, cm, mL, mg, kDa, etc.), as regulated by international rules.

Figures (Graphs and Photographs)

Illustrative material must be original, i.e., not previously published elsewhere.

In the text of the article, figure titles (for graphs, photographs) and tables are placed immediately after the paragraph in which they are first referenced. All figures are numbered sequentially using Arabic numerals in the order they appear in the text.

Figure captions should be concise but sufficiently informative. Figure titles, notes, labels and text within the figure, as well as legend text, must be translated into English and placed below the corresponding Russian text on a new line. Figures may be submitted in the following graphic formats: .tiff (resolution of at least 300 dpi at 100% scale), .eps, or .ai. Images embedded in Word documents will not be accepted.

If authors use figures adapted from other sources, the source must be cited in the figure legend.

Illustration dimensions:

• Maximum height: 210 mm
• Maximum width for a single column: 82 mm
• Maximum width for two columns: 170 mm

For graphs and charts, the Editorial Board may additionally request the data tables on which they are based, or the numerical values of the indicators represented by the corresponding graphic elements (bars, sectors, etc.). These should be provided as files with .doc or, preferably, .xls extensions.

Tables

Tables are numbered using Arabic numerals, separately from the numbering of figures (graphs and photographs). The title is printed above the table.

All Russian-language text contained in the table, including units of measurement, must be translated into English; the translation should be placed in the cell with the corresponding Russian text on a separate line.

The table title and any note text must also be translated into English and placed below the Russian text on a new line.

For footnotes in tables, one or more asterisks () should be used. Explanations are printed after the corresponding number of asterisks () below the table. Units of measurement, if necessary, are included in the headings of rows or columns.

Payment for publication

Following the technical verification of the manuscript’s compliance with journal policies and prior to the initiation of the peer review process, authors will be required to confirm that they have reviewed the publication fee policy and are prepared, in the event the article is accepted for publication, to remit payment within the timeframe specified by the editorial office.

Payment for article publication is required only after a positive decision has been made to accept the manuscript for publication. Under no circumstances shall payment be rendered prior to receipt of official notification regarding the article’s acceptance.

The decision to accept an article and determine the projected publication timeline is made solely following the receipt of positive peer reviews. After receiving expert evaluations, all articles are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief, who provides recommendations regarding further pre-press preparation, anticipated publication schedules, and the necessity of payment.

After payment is received and technical edits are completed, the manuscript appears in the Online First section on the journal’s website, without waiting for the full issue to be released. The final version appears in the print version of the journal.

The publication fee is 30,000 Russian rubles. This amount covers technical verification of manuscript files, the peer review process, preparation for publication, and publication in both the electronic (ISSN 1563-0625) and print (ISSN 2313-741X) versions of the journal. For international authors, payment may be made in Chinese yuan at the current exchange rate of Sberbank of Russia at the time of invoicing.

Payment is made as a single fee per article according to the payment details provided by the editorial office.

  Authors should submit the manuscript in .docx and .pdf formats. The template can be downloaded here.

  To submit an article, authors must confirm the following points. The article may be rejected if it does not comply with them.

• By submitting an article to the journal, the authors guarantee that the submitted materials have not been previously published, in whole or in part, in any form, anywhere, or in any language. The authors also guarantee that the article is not under consideration for publication in another journal.

• From the moment an article is accepted for publication in this journal, the material contained therein may not be published by the authors, in whole or in part, in any form, anywhere, or in any language without the consent of the journal's editorial board. Exceptions include: 1) publication of the article's materials as abstracts; 2) use of the article's materials as part of a lecture or review; 3) use by the author of the materials submitted to the journal when writing a dissertation, book, or monograph. Reproduction of the entire publication or any part thereof by any means is prohibited without the written permission of the publishers. Violations of the law will be prosecuted in accordance with legal procedures in the Russian Federation.

• Articles are submitted to the editorial office via the electronic publishing system in accordance with the requirements of the journal and the "Authors Guidelines" available on the website.

• The submitted article file is provided in .doc/docx and .pdf formats.

• The text complies with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements described in the "Rules for Authors" located on the "About the Journal" page. All references to illustrations, graphs, and tables are placed in the appropriate locations within the text, rather than at the end of the document.

• If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, you agree to the requirements of blind peer review, more details of which can be found in the "Peer Review" section on the "About the Journal" page.

• • The manuscript file is prepared in two versions: .docx (main submission file) and .pdf (additional file provided in supplementary files section, and includes the following sections:
  1. Title page, containing:
  • Full name (last name, first name, patronymic), academic degree, academic title, position of the author responsible for further correspondence with the editorial office (in Russian and English);
  • Name of the institution where the corresponding author works (in Russian and the officially accepted English version);
  • Postal address for correspondence including postal code (in Russian and English);
  • Telephone (including country and city codes), e-mail.
  • Full name (last name, first name, patronymic), academic degree, academic title, position of each co-author of the article (complete, in Russian and English);
  • Department and institution where the work was performed (if the authors of the article are employees of different institutions, the latter are numbered sequentially, starting with one, and the corresponding number is placed after the surname of the author representing that institution. For marking authors in the English-language part of the article, Latin letters (a, b, c, d, etc.) are used instead of numbers);
  • Article title – must be presented in parallel in Russian and English, should not contain abbreviations (except those generally accepted in science), optimal length: Russian version: 8-12 words (40-70 characters including spaces), English version: 10-15 words (50-90 characters including spaces).
  • Short title of the article for the running head (no more than 35 characters, including spaces and punctuation marks, in Russian and English);
  • At least 6 keywords in Russian and English;
  • Number of text pages, number of figures, number of tables;
  • Date of submission.
  2. The main text of the manuscript, divided into appropriate sections, containing illustrations and tables.
  3. Reference list, prepared in accordance with recommendations above.

  A separate file in .pdf format must be submitted, containing a scanned copy of the title page of the manuscript, signed by each author. The file should be named "Authors' Signatures"; its presence in the system implies that all authors agree to the publication of the article.

  Thus, when submitting an article, at Step 2 ("Full Manuscript File"), the authors upload the manuscript file (in .doc or .docx format). At Step 3 ("Supplementary Files and Supporting Documents"), they attach the following as supplementary materials: a scanned copy of the authors' signatures on the title page (file name: "Author Signatures," in .pdf format), a PDF version of the manuscript, and any additional files they consider necessary, e.g., high-resolution figures or additional tables.

  Important! All changes that authors will provide during the peer-review process must be made in the manuscript file they sent to the editorial office, and must be duplicated in both .docx and .pdf formats. Changes must be highlighted via Track Changes option in Microsoft Office or marked in color.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
